The essential elements of the PYP include a set of skills that are trans-disciplinary in the sense that they transcend one discipline or subject area. They are also referred to as Approaches to Learning (ATL) because they enable learners to construct meaning as they inquire into different ideas. These trans-disciplinary skills are: Thinking Skills, Self-Management Skills, Communications Skills, Research Skills, and Social Skills.
